Is that website real?

Dozens of sites look like the government and charge $150 to $300 to "process" a free form. Some never file anything. One of our customers paid $189 and his number stayed inactive.

  • The government never charges for the MCS-150 update. Only sites ending in .gov are real.
  • FMCSA.com, dotmcs.com, and DOTMC are not the government, whatever the page says.
  • If you already paid one, bring the receipt. We will tell you what, if anything, it did.

Questions people ask us

Why does my USDOT number show inactive?
Most of the time the two-year update got missed and FMCSA shut the number off. Sometimes a paid site took the money and never filed. Either way the fix is a free filing with FMCSA, done through a login.gov account that is linked to your number. Getting it linked is the part that takes the phone call.
How much does it cost to reactivate?
FMCSA charges nothing. We charge $300 flat to check your record, get them on the line, get the number linked, and file it with you at the desk.
Is FMCSA.com the government?
No. The real agency is fmcsa.dot.gov and its registration system is motus.dot.gov. Only .gov sites are the government. We are not the government either, and we say so on every page.
What is the MCS-150 biennial update?
Every carrier confirms its information with FMCSA every two years, even if nothing changed. Miss it and the number goes inactive. Free to file, about twenty minutes once you can sign in.
Do I need UCR?
If your trucks cross state lines, yes, every year at ucr.gov. One or two trucks is about $55 for 2027. Real notices come from a .gov address.
Can you do it remotely?
Yes. Your desk, your truck, or a screen share. You sign in, we drive. In person around Carrollton, Villa Rica, Bremen, Newnan, Douglasville and over the line into Alabama. Anywhere by screen share.

Who you are dealing with

DOT Desk is Clint Phillips in Carrollton, Georgia. Twenty years of fixing computers and systems for a living, and the last stretch of it spent sitting next to office managers and owner-operators getting their FMCSA records straight. No call center, no portal with a cart. You get a person with a phone number who shows up.

We are not FMCSA, not the DOT, and not affiliated with any government agency. Every government filing we touch is free from the government. What you pay for is somebody who knows which site is real, what to say on the hold line, and how to get it filed the first time.
